Tiger Cross Country Teams Finish Fifth at SCAC Championships

Seguin, Texas – The Trinity University Tigers men's and women's teams each placed fifth Saturday at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by Trinity at Texas Lutheran University.

The Tiger women amassed 109 points in the 6k race, behind Rhodes (19), DePauw (63), Centre (95), and Colorado College (107). The Tigers finished ahead of Southwestern (180), Sewanee (186), Hendrix (236), and Millsaps (268). Oglethorpe was disqualified after the meet and did not receive team points.

Trinity's men, with 99 points in the 8k race, were behind defending champion Colorado College (57), DePauw (72), Rhodes (74), and Centre (94). The Tigers finished ahead of

 Tiger first-year women's runner Rosemary Steup of Kingwood, Texas (Kingwood), was runner-up, and took home SCAC Freshman of the Year honors. Steup clocked in at 22:27.6, just 5.5 seconds behind the champion, Taylor Stephens of Rhodes.

Maddie Murphy, a first-year runner from Friendswood, Texas (Friendswood), just missed All-SCAC honors, with a 15th-place finish (23:37.8).  Vanessa Moreno, a first-year student-athlete from El Paso, Texas (Horizon), placed 25th (24:25.2).

 Two Tiger men's competitors from San Antonio earned All-SCAC recognition. Junior Robert Edmonds (Health Careers) finished in seventh place (25:56.1), and senior Adam Cribb (Randolph) was 10th (26:04.6). Senior Zach Brush of Edmond, Okla. (Edmond), placed No. 18 (26:16.3).

Jackson Brainerd of Colorado College won the individual title for the second straight year, with a time of 25:09.6

The Trinity teams will compete in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional Nov. 13 at Rhodes in Memphis, Tenn.
