Trinity Men Third and Women Fifth at SCAC Championships

Conyers, Georgia – Trinity’s men’s and women’s cross country teams had four runners earn All-Conference at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday morning at Georgia Horse Park.

Senior Bryant Wright finished second in the men’s race, just eight seconds behind the winner from Colorado College, Jackson Brainerd. Wright earned All-SCAC honors for the second straight season, improving on last year’s third-place finish. Wright earned All-Region honors by finishing sixth at last year’s NCAA South/Southeast Regional, qualifying individually for the NCAA Championships.

In the women’s race, junior Caitlin Masse finished in second place to earn All-SCAC honors for the third straight year. As a first-year runner, Masse finished third in the SCAC race and earned SCAC Newcomer of the Year honors in 2007. Last season, she was ninth in the SCAC Championships, helping the Tigers finish second overall. Masse is also a two-time All-Region runner, finishing seventh at the regional meet in 2007, as well as 13th in last year’s regional meet.

Also finishing All-SCAC in the men’s race were Chass Armstrong and Zach Brush. Armstrong was seventh in today’s race, while Brush was 11th individually. Last season, Armstrong earned All-SCAC honors by finishing fourth in the SCAC Championships. Armstrong earned All-Region honors for the third straight time last season, while Brush was an All-Region runner last season as well.

The Tiger men’s team finished in third place overall, earning the team’s best finish since the 2004 season. Last year, Trinity was fifth at the SCAC Championships, and in fact, the team finished no better than fifth from 2005 until this year. As a team, the Tiger women finished fifth in the conference. Trinity had previously finished fourth or better every year since the 2000 conference championships.

Both Trinity teams will compete at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional meet at Greensboro, North Carolina, on November 14. Last season, the women’s team won the regional meet for the second time in school history, advancing to the NCAA Championships. The Tigers finished sixth at the NCAA Championships – the team’s best-ever finish. Trinity’s men’s team was seventh at last year’s regional meet.
