Emodi and Found Earn AVCA Honors
San Antonio - Two outstanding Trinity
University Tigers volleyball players have earned recognition as
Honorable Mention All-Americans by the American Volleyball Coaches
Association.
First-year outside hitter Maggie Emodi and senior right-side player
Catharine Found both earned the Division III honors.
Emodi (Omaha, Neb./Marian) had one of the best first seasons in
Trinity volleyball history. The 5-foot-10 Emodi was earlier named
the AVCA South Region Freshman of the Year, and the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year. Emodi was also
elected to the All-SCAC Second Team and the AVCA All-South Region
Team.
She led the Tigers in kills per set (3.34, 354 total kills), was
second in hitting percentage at.288 (353 kills, 100 errors, 882
total attacks), and placed fourth in total blocks (63, .59 per set)
and digs (204, 1.92 per set).
Found (Iowa City, Iowa/West) was previously selected for the
All-SCAC Second Team and the All-South Region Team. The 6-foot-1
Found led Trinity in hitting percentage, at .295 (308 kills,
78 errors, 780 total attacks). She finished second in total blocks
(121, .90 per set).
Both players had important roles in the Tigers run to the SCAC Championship match in Jackson, Miss. Fifth-seeded Trinity, led by head coach Julie Jenkins, began the tournament with a 3-0 victory over Sewanee:University of the South, and then defeated No. 4 Birmingham-Southern by the same score. Trinity upset top seed (and nationally sixth-ranked) Southwestern 3-1 in the semifinals, before falling 3-1 to No. 2 Colorado College (ranked 13th), the defending SCAC champion
Trinity completed the campaign with a 22-16 record.
