Trinity's SCAC Tournament Run Ended by Colorado College Saturday
Jackson, Mississippi - The fifth-seeded Trinity
Tigers had their best tourney in years, but fell 25-13, 24-26,
25-22, 25-20 to No. 2 Colorado College in the title match of the
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Championship
Tournament on Saturday night.
Colorado College, ranked 13th in the nation, repeated as SCAC
champion and earned the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III
playoffs.
The Tigers (22-16) earlier upset top-seeded Southwestern (ranked
sixth nationally) 3-1 in the semifinals. Trinity will now await a
possible invitation to the NCAA Tournament.
Trinity's Madison McMahon. who led the team in kills, hit .316 in
the match (18 kills, six errors, 38 total attacks). McMahon also
played strong defense, by recording 16 digs. Leslie Green and
Meredith Erwin each contributed 10 digs to the Tigers cause.
Maryn Swierc dished out 34 assists, and chalked up 13 digs. Desie
Baker and Maddy Hazelwood were the leaders of blocked shots, with
six and five blocks, respectively. Baker also fired in two service
aces.
Last season, the Tigers, who hosted the SCAC Tournament, finished
in fourth place.
