Trinity Volleyball Finishes Fourth at SCAC Championships

San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers finished in fourth place at the SCAC Volleyball Championship Tournament Saturday night.

In the semifinals, top seed and 10th-ranked Colorado College shut out Trinity 25-13, 25-7, 25-11. The Tigers fought hard against seventh-seeded Centre in the third-place match, but the Colonels prevailed 25-22, 25-16, 8-25, 22-25, 15-4.

Trinity now stands at 22-16 on the season.

Senior setter Caiti Troyer registered 15 assists against Colorado College (the eventual tournament champion), and 49 in the Centre match. Troyer has 1,408 assists this season, and 3,554 in her career. She is ranked fifth in Tiger career assists.

Junior right-side player Catharine Found hit .458 against Centre, with 12 kills, one error, and 24 total attacks. Sophomore outside hitter McKenzie Forbes shared the lead in kills, with 12. Junior middle blocker Maddy Hazelwood added 11 kills and four blocks. Senior defensive specialist Emily Hilliard accounted for 19 digs, and first-year setter Maryn Swierc had 17. Sophomore libero Meredith Erwin made 11 digs, and first-year outside hitter Sara Robertson had 10.

Colorado College hit .456 in the match, including a .619 third set.

Hazelwood hit .467, with nine kills, two errors, and 15 total attacks, along with firing in three aces. Erwin was Trinity's digs leader, with 12, junior middle blocker Desie Baker blocked three shots.  Hazelwood was honored with a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
