Tiger Volleyball Splits Matches at Final Day of SCAC Divisional

Sherman, Texas - The Trinity Tigers split their final-day matches Saturday at the SCAC East-West Tournament at Austin College, sweeping Sewanee, but losing to nationally-ranked Southwestern.

Trinity blanked Sewanee: The University of the South 25-16, 25-12, 25-12 in the opening match of the day. Southwestern, ranked 20th, then beat the Tigers 25-21, 25-22, 25-16 in the second match. Trinity, which had an 11-match winning streak snapped, now stands at 18-9 and 10-4 SCAC. The Tigers beat Centre and Oglethorpe by scores of 3-0 on Friday.

Madison McMahon led Trinity in kills (15) and digs (11) against Southwestern. Caiti Troyer accounted for 25 assists, and has chalked up 974 this season. Troyer has 3,120 assists in her career, and is fifth in the Tiger record books. Kelsey Daniel had two aces, while Daniel and Maddy Hazelwood each blocked five shots.

In Saturday's opener with Sewanee, McMahon hit an outstanding .667 (9 kills, 1 error, 12 total attacks). Desie Baker recorded .417 (7 kills, 2 errors, 12 total attacks), and Sara Robertson hit .400 (4 kills, 0 errors, 10 total attacks). The Tigers hit .426 as a team (36 kills, 10 errors, 61 total attacks).

Troyer produced 14 assists, and Swierc added 12. Swierc was also the Tigers digs leader, with seven. Hazelwood, Emily Kimmitt and Ashley Williams each fired up two aces, and Daniel led in blocks, with four.

The Tigers will host the Trinity National Invitational Friday and Saturday at the William H. Bell Athletic Center.
