Tigers Finish SCAC Divisional Undefeated After Two Wins on Sunday

Jackson, Miss. - The Trinity Tigers went 4-0 for the weekend after earning two victories at the second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference West-Central Tournament at Millsaps College on Sunday.

Trinity first blanked Birmingham-Southern 25-18 25-17, 31-29, and then defeated seventh-ranked Colorado College 16-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.

The Tigers, who have won eight matches in a row, improved to 15-8 and 7-3 SCAC.

In the Colorado College match, senior setter Caiti Troyer produced 45 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Madison McMahon registered a personal tournament-high 19 kills, along with seven digs and five blocks. Sophomore libero Meredith Erwin led wiith 12 digs. Junior middle blocker Maddy Hazelwood accounted for nine blocks and eight kills. Desie Baker, a junior middle blocker, had 10 kills and five blocks.

Troyer dished out 37 assists against Birmingham-Southern. McMahon was the kills leader, with 14, and junior right-side player Catharine Found had 10, along with five blocks. Found hit .471 in the match (17 total attacks, two errors). Hazelwood hit .538 (eight kills, 13 total attacks, one error), and blocked seven shots. First-year setter Maryn Swierc led the Tigers with 13 digs.

McMahon chalked up 67 kills in the four matches (16.75 average per match). Troyer shelled out 173 assists in the tournament (43.25 average per match), with a high of 47 against Millsaps. She now has 865 assists this season, and 3,011 in her career. Troyer is currently ranked fifth in Tiger career assists.

Trinity travels to Sherman, Texas, next Friday and Saturday for the SCAC East-West Tournament No. 2 at Austin College.
