Volleyball Finishes SCAC East-West Tournament With Two Wins

Sewanee, Tenn. – The Trinity Tigers concluded the SCAC East-West Tournament with a pair of wins on Sunday Afternoon, including an upset of nationally-ranked Austin College at Sewanee: The University of The South.

The Tigers dispatched 20th-ranked Austin College 25-22, 18-25, 25-20, 25-14 in the weekend finale.  Earlier in the day, Trinity shut out Oglethorpe 25-13, 25-11, 25-21. The Tigers improved to 10-8 overall and 4-3 SCAC. Trinity recorded a 3-1 record at the SCAC cross-over event.

Junior right-side player Catharine Found led the Tigers in kills against Austin College, with 10. Found, who hit .348 (23 total attacks, two errors), also blocked four shots. Maddy Hazelwood, a junior middle blocker, added nine kills and hit .533 (15 total attacks, one error). Hazelwood also contributed four blocked shots, as did junior middle blocker Desie Baker.

Senior setter Caiti Troyer produced 39 assists and 17 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Madison McMahon led the team in digs, with 18, while senior defensive specialist Emily Hilliard had 12. Sophomore defensive specialist Meredith Erwin fired in five service aces for the Tigers.

Sophomore outside hitter McKenzie Forbes earned the kills honors against Oglethorpe, with 10, while hitting .643 (14 total attacks, one error). Troyer shelled out 30 assists, and Erwin had 13 digs. Hazelwood blocked three shots, and first-year setter Maryn Swierc made two aces.
 
The Tigers have off until Oct. 6, when they host Texas Lutheran University at 6 p.m. in Sams Gym.
