Volleyball Finishes Opening SCAC Weekend With Two Losses
Georgetown, Texas - The Trinity Tigers lost two matches on the final day of the SCAC West-Central Tournament at Southwestern University on Saturday, both by scores of 3-2.
Birmingham-Southern beat the Tigers 22-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-18,
15-9 in the opening match of the day. Host Southwestern, ranked No.
17 nationally, was a 25-14, 21-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-12 winner over
Trinity in the final match.
The Tigers went 1-3 at the SCAC divisional tournament, and now
stand at 7-7 overall.
In the match with Birmingham-Southern, sophomore outside hitter McKenzie
Forbes led the team with 16 kills. Senior setter Caiti
Troyer produced 49 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore libero
Meredith
Erwin was the digs leader, with 19, and first-year setter Maryn Swierc
added 13, while firing in two aces. Senior defensive specialist Adriene
Busch accounted for 11 digs and two aces. Junior middle
blocker Maddy
Hazelwood blocked five shots.
Sophomore outside hitter Madison
McMahon made 14 kills against Southwestern, first-year outside
hitter Sara
Robertson had 11, and Hazelwood chalked up 10. Hazelwood hit
.381 in the match (21 total attacks, two errors), while blocking 11
shots. Troyer shelled out 43 assists, nine digs, and two aces.
Erwin was again the digs leader, with 21, and senior defensive
specialist Emily
Hilliard had 18, along with two aces. Swierc tallied 16 digs,
and Busch made 13.
Trinity will compete next Saturday and Sunday at the SCAC East-West
No. 1 Tournament at Sewanee, Tenn.
