Trinity Fights Back to Beat Hardin-Simmons Friday Night
San Antonio – The 12th-ranked Trinity Tigers volleyball team battled back to beat the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls 21-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17, 15-11 Friday in the second match of the Trinity University River City Classic in Sams Gym.
Earlier in the day, Trinity (3-0) had to come back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat McMurry 3-2 to open up the home team's part in the tournament.
Tiger sophomore outside hitter Madison McMahon led the team with 18 kills against Hardin-Simmons. McMahon also had 11 digs and two blocks. First-year outside hitter Sara Robertson accounted for 10 kills and four blocks.
Senior setter Caiti Troyer produced 39 assists and a Tiger-best 24 digs. Sophomore libero Meredith Erwin recorded 18 digs and two service aces. Junior middle blocker Desie Baker led in blocks, with five. Senior defensive specialist Emily Hilliard fired up two aces, and made 14 digs.
The Tigers take on Massachusetts-Boston at 11 a.m. Saturday, and conclude the tournament at 5:30 p.m. with Whitworth.
