San Antonio – The 12th-ranked Trinity Tigers volleyball team overcame an 0-2 deficit to edge McMurry University 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-9 Friday in the opening match of their Trinity University River City Classic in Sams Gym.

Trinity (2-0) will take on Hardin-Simmons at 7:30 tonight to finish off the first day of the tournament.

Tiger sophomore outside hitter Madison McMahon led the match with 17 kills, and also had 24 digs and two blocks. Senior setter Caiti Troyer accounted for 53 assists and 16 digs. Junior middle blocker Maddy Hazelwood hit .455, with 13 kills (three errors, 22 total attacks), while picking up two blocks.

First-year outside hitter Sara Robertson had 14 kills, and hit .353 in the match (34 total attacks), with only two errors. Kelsey Daniel, a first-year middle blocker, blocked three shots.

Sophomore libero Meredith Erwin recorded 14 digs, and senior defensive specialist Adriene Busch had 12. Erwin and senior defensive specialist Emily Hilliard each fired in two service aces.
