Volleyball Downs Texas Lutheran in 2010 Opener
Seguin, Texas – The 12th-ranked Trinity University Tigers volleyball team launched the 2010 campaign with a 25-17, 28-26, 21-25, 25-17 victory Wednesday night over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs at Tostengard Activity Center.
Trinity overcame two set points in the second set, as the Tigers were down 23-24 and 25-26.
Tiger senior setter Caiti Troyer registered 37 assists, and increased her career total to 1,564. Troyer also had 11 digs and two blocks in the match.
Junior middle blocker Maddy Hazelwood and sophomore outside hitter Madison McMahon shared the lead in kills, with 11 each. McMahon also recorded 13 digs for the Tigers, while Hazelwood was the blocks leader, with four. Sophomore defensive specialist Meredith Erwin fired in two service aces, and accounted for 11 digs.
The Trinity University River City Classic is slated for Friday and Saturday at the William H. Bell Athletic Center. Trinity takes on McMurry (3:15 p.m.) and Hardin-Simmons (7:30 p.m.) on Friday. The Tigers meet Massachusetts-Boston (11 a.m.) and Whitworth (5:30 p.m.) Saturday.
