Eight Top Recruits to Join Trinity Volleyball Program
San Antonio – Trinity University volleyball head Coach Julie Jenkins will have the services of eight top recruits when the Tigers return to the court in August.
Each of these eight student-athletes have accepted admission to Trinity, and have deposited for the 2011-12 school year.
Bridget Bohman (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier Prep/AZ Storm) is a four-time Arizona 5A-1 State Champion, who earned Arizona Coaches Association 1st Team All-American honors in 2010. The 6-foot setter/right side player was a team captain in 2010, as well as earning All-Region honors for the second consecutive season. She was also named Honorable Mention All-State in 2009.
Erin Cusenbary (San Antonio/St. Mary's Hall/Extec 2010), a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, earned Southwest Preparatory Conference All-South Zone and All-Conference honors from 2008 to 2010. A team captain, Cusenbary was also named to the San Antonio Express-News All-Area team the past two years.
Maggie Emodi (Omaha, Neb./Marian/River City Juniors), a 5-foot-10 middle blocker/outside hitter, was a key member of the 2009 Nebraska Class A state champion Marian team. Marian was state runner-up last season. Emodi was elected to the 2010 all-state third team, and to the Nebraska Coaches Association All-Star Team. She also was named to the Omaha Honorable Mention All-Metro Team, and served as team captain.
Jenny Epperson (Baytown, Texas/Lee/AVA), a 5-foot-6 setter, was first team all-district in Class 4A, and second team in Class 5A. A co-captain of her team, Epperson also was elected to the academic all-state squad. Along with being our first volleyball recruit to commit from the 2011 class, she was also Trinity's first student to deposit for the coming year.
Audrey Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas/Barbers Hill/TRV) will be the third member of her family to play for the talented Tiger team. Hazelwood, a 5-foot-11 right-side player/outside hitter, was a first-team all-district honoree and team captain in 2010, as well as making the academic all-state team. Her older sister, Maddy, will be a senior middle blocker during the campaign. Aly Hazelwood, an All-America middle blocker, graduated in December 2009.
Taylor Michel (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain/Colorado Juniors), a 6-foot-2 middle blocker, played for three-time Class 4A state champion Cheyenne Mountain. Michel was selected for the academic all-state first team the last two years. Along with beng the team captain, she was also named to the Colorado High School Athletic Association Classes 4A/5A All-Area Honorable Mention Team in 2010.
Mia Mineghino (Lake Forest, Calif./El Torro HS/Surf City) is a 5-10 libero/defensive specialist who earned All-County honors each of the past two seasons - including a Second Team selection in 2010. She served as the team captain for both her high school and club teams, and was the Orange County Varsity Athlete of the Week.
Jess Van Zijll (Tucson, Ariz./Green Fields Country Day/Club Dinamo) is a 5-11 right side player who was her high school team captain each of the past two seasons. She was the 1A Player of the Year in 2010, earning First Team All-State honors for the second consecutive season. In 2009, Van Zijll also earned a Nationals Silver medal.
Coach Jenkins, who has completed 26 years at the Trinity helm, has guided the Tigers to the NCAA Division III playoffs 18 times. The Tigers have advanced to the NCAA Championship game, made two semifinal appearances, and played in the quarterfinals five times. Trinity, which has made 12 trips to the NCAA Sweet 16, also has captured 15 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
