Aly Hazelwood Named 2009 AVCA All-American
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers senior middle blocker Aly Hazelwood has been elected for the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III All-America Team.
The 6-foot Hazelwood, from Baytown, Texas (Barbers Hill), was selected for the All-America Third Team. Hazelwood earlier made the All-South Region and All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Teams.
Hazelwood has registered 165 blocks this year, placing her at No. 3 on Trinity's all-time single-season list. She is second in career blocks, with 519, and became only the second player in Tiger history to amass more than 500. Hazelwood has 324 kills, and is ranked 15th in career kills, with 868.
Trinity (30-11), led by by 25th-year head coach Julie Jenkins, is making its fifth-trip to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals. The 18th-ranked Tigers will take on top-ranked Juniata (Pa.) Thursday at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio. The match time is 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The semifinals and final are slated for Friday and Saturday, also in Ohio.
