Southwestern Defeats Trinity Volleyball in SCAC Semifinals
Atlanta - The top-seeded Southwestern Pirates beat the No. 4 Trinity Tigers 25-9, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21 Saturday in the semifinals of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament at Oglethorpe University. Southwestern is ranked No. 12 nationally and Trinity is 17th.
Trinity (26-11), which had won 11 consecutive SCAC titles, faces third-seeded DePauw at 6 p.m. Eastern Time for third place.
Tiger junior right-side player Tayler Malloy registered 15 kills. Junior setter Caiti Troyer chalked up 36 assists, and junior libero Alexis Edwards had 20 digs. Middle blocker Ginger Haley, and outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt, both seniors, registered four blocks.
Yesterday, Aly Hazelwood was named to the All-SCAC First Team, while Haley was a Second Team selection. Caiti Troyer earned Third Team All-SCAC honors, and was also recently voted to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI Team.
