Trinity Defeats Hendrix and Millsaps to Open SCAC Divisional

Conway, Arkansas - The 15th-ranked Trinity University Tigers opened the second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference West-Central Tournament Saturday with a 25-27, 25-23, 25-11, 25-16 victory over the host Hendrix College Warriors.

Trinity (16-6, 7-2 SCAC) will play Millsaps College later today in Grove Gymnasium.

Tiger senior middle blocker Ginger Haley led the team with 15 kills and six blocks. Haley hit .750 (15 kills, 0 errors, 20 total attacks). Junior setter Caiti Troyer amassed 46 assists and 13 digs, along with two aces. First-year libero Meredith Erwin was the digs leader, with 17. Senior outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt fired in two aces, and accounted for 12 digs.

First-year outside hitter Madison Mc Mahon hit . 476 (11 kills, 1 error, 21 total attacks) for the Tigers.

Trinity hit .314 (51 kills, 13 errors, 121 total attacks) as a team.

 

Conway, Arkansas - The 15th-ranked Trinity Tigers concluded the opening day of the second Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference West-Central Tournament with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 win over the Millsaps Majors on Saturday afternoon.

Trinity (17-6, 8-2 SCAC) earlier beat the host Hendrix Warriors 3-1 in Grove Gymnasium.

Senior outside hitter Amy Mittelstaedt chalked up 13 kills for the Tigers against the Majors. Junior setter Caiti Troyer accounted for 35 assists, 10 digs and three blocks. First-year libero Meredith Erwin was the digs leader, with 13, and junior outside hitter Alexis Edwards added 12.

Aly Hazelwood, a senior middle blocker, had five blocks. Hazelwood, Mittelstaedt, Erwin and junior defensive specialist Emily Hilliard each recorded one service ace.

The Tigers conclude the tournament Sunday with Birmingham-Southern College at 9 a.m., and Austin College at 1 p.m. Austin College received votes in the latest Division III top-25 poll.
