Mackenzie Knoop Finishes Sixth in Singles at ITA Nationals

Mobile, Alabama - Trinity Tigers first-year player Mackenzie Knoop (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque Academy) finished sixth in women's singles Saturday at the USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships.

Washington & Lee's Sonja Meighan beat Knoop 6-4, 7-5 in the fifth-place match at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

Knoop, the ITA Southwest Regional champion, won her play-in match at the national event, and then lost to third-seeded Kendra Higgins of the University of Chicago in the quarterfinals. A victory by Knoop over Kalla Schaefer of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the consolation semifinals placed her in the bid for fifth place. Knoop and first-year player Stephanie Williamson (Katy, Texas/Taylor) had qualified for the ITA Nationals doubles tournament.

The Trinity Tigers men's doubles team of senior Max Frey (Tulsa, Okla./Holland Hall) and junior Erick DelaFuente (El Paso, texas/Coronado) had taken home fifth place Friday with a win over Andrew and Ben Guzick of Vassar. Frey also competed in the singles tournament.
