Women's Tennis Opens SCAC Tournament With Win Over Austin

North Little Rock, Ark. – The third-seeded Trinity Tigers women defeated the No. 6 Austin College Kangaroos 8-1 Friday in the quarterfinals of the SCAC Championship Tournament at Burns Park Tennis Center.

Trinity (8-8), ranked No. 25 nationally, takes on second-seeded Sewanee: The University of the South at 11 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals. The championship match, which will determine the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs, is slated for 8 a.m. Sunday.
 
The Tigers started the match by winning all three doubles, by the identical scores of 8-2. Thavindra Ekanayake and Kylie Hornbeck defeated Kelly Lewis and Minnie Satyavada at No. 1 doubles, Katie Griffith and Megan Jackson beat Elizabeth Flint and Sophie McDonald in the No. 2 match, and Erin Jamison and Kassie Seger won No. 3 doubles over Jessie Berger and Margaret Edwards.
 
Trinity went on to win five of the six singles matches, with Griffith providing the clincher at No. 2 singles, defeating Lewis 6-1, 6-2.
 
Jackson dispatched Flint 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles; and Jamison was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Satyavada in the No. 4 match. Lavinia Bendandi and Seger won Nos. 5 and 6 singles, each by the score of 7-6, 6-2.  Bendandi beat McDonald, and Seger took out Edwards.
 
Austin College’s only point was at No. 1 singles, as Arianne Goddard beat Ekanayake 6-3, 6-4.
