Trinity Women's Tennis Shuts Out McMurry
San Antonio – The Trinity Tigers women’s tennis team, ranked No. 19 in the NCAA Division III, shut out McMurry 9-0 Friday at Delavan Tennis Stadium.
Trinity, ranked fourth in the West Region, improved its overall record to 8-11, and 8-4 in Division III matches. The Tigers also won their second match in a row, and fifth of the last six. McMurry is ranked No. 15 in the region.
Katy Poettcker and Kassie Seger defeated Natalie Rodriguez and Whitney Zugai 8-1 at No. 1 doubles. Erin Jamison and Katie Budinsky were 8-5 winners over Chelsea Miller and Gavee Olsen. Katie Griffith and Thavindra Ekanayake completed the doubles sweep with an 8-3 victory over Karlie Deiterich and Hillary Stone.
The Tigers yielded only four games in the singles matches.
Poettcker and Griffith won Nos. 1 and 2 singles by scores of 6-0, 6-0, over Rodriguez and Zugai, respectively. Budinsky captured No. 3 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Olsen, and Megan Jackson won No. 4, defeating Miller 6-1, 6-1. Seger dispatched Stone 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Jamison won No. 6 by a score of 6-0, 6-1 over Rachel Smith.
The Tigers wrap up their regular-season home schedule Saturday by hosting St. Mary’s, a member of Division II, at 9 a.m.
