Poettcker Falls to Defending NCAA Singles Champion

Mobile, Alabama - Trinity University Tigers junior Katy Poettcker of Colleyville, Texas (Heritage), lost in the seventh-place singles match Saturday  at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Small College Championships.

Defending NCAA Division III champion Lorne McManigle of Emory beat Poettcker 6-2, 6-0 at Copeland-Cox Tennis Center.

Qualifiers for the national tournament are ITA regional singles and doubles champions. Poettcker won the Southwest Region singles title, beating first-year teammate Thavindra Ekanayake, at Trinity earlier this month. The Tiger tandem captured the regional doubles crown, and were eliminated in Wednesday's National Small College play-in round.
