Women's Tennis Finishes California Trip With Loss to Bowdoin
Claremont, Calif. – The 16th-ranked Bowdoin Polar Bears beat the No. 19 Trinity Tigers women’s tennis team 6-3 Monday at the Claremont Tennis Club.
Trinity (3-10), which wrapped up its California trip, upset No. 10 Redlands on Sunday. The Tigers now stand at 3-10, and will play SCAC member Austin College March 26 at Sherman, Texas.
Bowdoin took a 2-1 lead after doubles, with Trinity winning No. 3 doubles. Tiger sophomore Katie Griffith of Spokane, Wash. (Ferris); and first-year Thavindra Ekanayake of Sri Lanka; beat Nikki Kuna and Brett Davis 8-5.
The Polar Bears took four of six singles matches, but the Tigers won two of the three-setters.
Griffith won No. 2 singles, beating Kellen Alberstone 7-6, 1-6, 6-4. Sophomore Kassie Seger of Spokane, Wash. (Ferris), was the winner at No. 6 singles, with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Nikki Kuna.
Junior Megan Jackson of Katy, Texas (Cinco Ranch), lost a tight No. 5 singles 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to Bowdoin’s Hannah Hoerner.
The Tigers will next play SCAC member Austin College March 26 at Georgetown, Texas.
