Second Half Lifts Tiger Women Past Austin on Friday

Sherman, Texas - The third-ranked Trinity Tigers women scored two second-half goals and shut out the Austin College Kangaroos 2-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game Friday.

Trinity, the defending conference champion, stayed undefeated at 17-0-0 and 7-0-0 SCAC. Austin College now stands at 6-8-1 and 2-3-1 SCAC.

The first half of the game was a defensive effort by both teams. Tiger goalkeeper Katie Garrett made her one save just 11 seconds into the matchup. Trinity had five shots on target in the opening half.

Then, in the 61st minute of play, Hannah Kuhl recorded her first game-winner of the season, and was assisted by Mariah Risk. Abby Loar made it 2-0 Trinity by scoring in the 74th minute, with the assist from Katy Lipscomb. Loar now has 17 goals this season, and along with 10 assists, has chalked up a team second-best 44 points.

Loar became Trinity's all-time leading scorer after Monday's 7-0 home win over Huston-Tillotson. The senior has now scored 54 goals in her career, and leads the record book in points, with 141.

The Tigers led the 'Roos 36-3 in total shots, and were 14-1 on goal.

Trinity concludes its regular-season campaign Sunday with a noon SCAC game at Irving, Texas, against the University of Dallas. The Tigers will then compete Nov. 4-5 at the SCAC Tournament at Birmingham, Ala., with a bid to the NCAA Division III playoffs at stake.
