Loar Breaks Trinity Points Record as Tigers Defeat Hendrix
San Antonio - Trinity senior forward Abby Loar scored two goals to break Trinity's career record for points scored, and the third-ranked Tigers shut out Hendrix 3-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, remained undefeated
at 15-0-0 and 6-0-0 SCAC. Hendrix dropped to 8-8-1 and 4-3-1 SCAC
after the loss.
In addition to becoming Trinity's all-time leader in points, Loar
(Littleton Colo./Heritage) also tied the mark for career goals
scored. The All-American has chalked up 137 total points, with 52
goals and 33 assists. This season, Loar, who had three shots on
goal in the game, has amassed 40 points (15 goals, six
game-winners, 10 assists).
Both of Loar's goals came in the first half of play, in the 31st
and 40th minutes. Kelsey Falcone assisted on Loar's first goal, and
Emily Jorgens was credited with the second assist.
Kirby Peddicord added the third goal, in the 59th minute, off a
corner kick.
Trinity, which recorded its 12th shutout of the season, led Hendrix
38-2 in total shots, and 15-1 on goal.
The Tigers wrap up their regular-season home campaign Monday by
hosting NAIA member Huston-Tillotson at 7 p.m. The game was
originally scheduled for Oct, 11.
Following Monday's game, Trinity will conclude its regular-season
conference schedule. The Tigers travel to Austin College (Sherman,
Texas) next Friday, and to the University of Dallas (Irving, Texas)
on Sunday.
The SCAC Championship Tournament is slated for Nov. 4-6 at
Birmingham-Southern College at Birmingham, Ala. At stake is an
automatic berth in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
