Tiger Women's Soccer Players Earn NSCAA Academic Honors

San Antonio -- Four Trinity University Tigers have been elected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Women's Scholar All-South Region Team.

Seniors Danika Wright, Jordan Azar, and junior Abby Loar were First Team honorees. Junior Kelly Watts was selected for the Third Team.

Wright (Alpine, Utah/Lone Peak), a defender, is a business administration/accounting major. She was earlier selected for the NSCAA All-Region Team, and the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team. Wright, a 2009 All-American, played a key role in Trinity's taut defense, which yielded only 11 goals (.55 per game) during the season. She scored five goals (two game-winners) and chalked up two assists.

Azar (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X), a midfielder, is an economics and finance major.  She was honored as an NSCAA Second Team All-American, as well as being named to the All-Region and All-SCAC Teams. Azar accounted for seven goals (one game-winner) and 11 assists during the season.

Loar (Littleton, Colo./Heritage), a forward, is an anthropology major. She was selected for the  NSCAA All-America Third Team, in addition to the All-Region and All-SCAC Teams. Loar was the Tigers leading scorer, with 16 goals (five game-winners) and 11 assists. Loar's performance earned her the distinction of being named the SCAC Offensive Player of
the Year.

Watts (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory), a forward, is a business administration/accounting major. She was previously elected to the ESPN Academic All-America Third Team, as well as the All-Region and All-SCAC Teams. Watts was second on the Trinity team in scoring, with 11 goals (three-game winners) and eight assists.

Trinity, led by seventh-year head Coach Lance Key, completed the season with an 18-2-0 overall record, and was 10-0-0 in the SCAC. The Tigers captured their fifth SCAC Championship under Coach Key's leadership, and 15th overall. Coach Key was honored by his peers as the SCAC Coach of the Year for the second straight time, and the
fourth overall.

Coach Key guided Trinity to its sixth NCAA postseason appearance in seven years, and 16th overall, as the Tigers advanced to the second round.
