Four Trinity Women's Soccer Players Named to All-Region Team
San Antonio -- Four members of the Trinity University Tigers women's soccer team have been elected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III All-West Region Team.
Senior defender Danika Wright (Alpine, Utah/Lone Peak), senior midfielder Jordan Azar (Albuquerque, N.M./St. Pius X), and junior forward Abby Loar (Littleton, Colo./Heritage) made the All-West Region First Team.
Junior forward Kelly Watts (Lakewood, Wash./Bellarmine Preparatory) was selected for the All-West Region Third Team.
Wright, a 2009 NSCAA All-American, anchored the stingy Trinity defense which gave up only 11 goals (.55 per game) during the season. Contributing to the offensive output, Wright scored five goals (two game-winners) and had two assists.
Loar was the Tigers leading scorer, with 16 goals (five game-winners) and 11 assists. She was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year last month.
Azar accounted for seven goals (one game-winner) and 11 assists during the campaign.
Watts scored 11 goals (three game-winners) and registered eight assists. She was also selected as an ESPN Academic All-American.
Trinity scored 62 goals during the season, an average of 3.10 per matchup.
The Tigers, led by seventh-year Head Coach Lance Key, completed the season with an 18-2-0 overall record, and were 10-0-0 in the SCAC. Trinity captured its fifth SCAC Championship under Coach Key's leadership, and 15th overall. Coach Key was honored by his peers as the SCAC Coach of the Year for the second straight time, and the fourth overall.
Coach Key guided Trinity to its sixth NCAA postseason appearance in seven years, and 16th overall.
The Tigers shut out Puget Sound 2-0 in the NCAA opening round, and were edged 2-1 by eventual national champion Hardin-Simmons in the second.
The NSCAA will next announce All-America selections.
