Abby Loar and Lance Key Headline Trinity's All-SCAC Selections
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers Head Coach Lance Key and junior forward Abby Loar have received the highest honors in women's soccer from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Coach Key, in his seventh year at the Tigers helm, was elected SCAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year for the second straight time, and the fourth overall. Loar, from Littleton, Colo. (Heritage), was named SCAC Offensive Player of the Year.
Trinity captured its fifth SCAC Championship under Coach Key's leadership, and the 15th overall. Coach Key also guided the Tigers to their sixth NCAA Division III postseason appearance in seven years, and 16th overall. Trinity shut out Puget Sound 2-0 in this year's NCAA opening round, and was edged 2-1 by Hardin-Simmons in the second. The Tigers completed the campaign with an 18-2-0 record, and were 10-0-0 in the SCAC.
Coach Key has posted a remarkable 106-15-10 record (.847), giving him the highest winning percentage of anyone who has ever coached a SCAC team sport.
Loar, who was the 2008 SCAC Newcomer of the Year, led the conference in scoring with 16 goals (five game-winners) and 11 assists, for 43 points.
She became the first player to lead the SCAC in scoring in consecutive years since the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Loar, who produced 15 goals last year, is only the fifth player in conference history to win back-to-back scoring title.
In addition, Loar is the sixth Trinity player in seven years to earn at least a share of the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year award.
Joining Loar on the All-SCAC First team were senior midfielder Danika Wright of Alpine, Utah (Lone Peak), the 2009 SCAC Defensive Player of the Year; senior midfielder Jordan Azar of Albuquerque, N.M. (St. Pius X); and junior defender Allyson Thrall of Scottsdale, Ariz. (Chaparral).
Junior forward Kelly Watts of Lakewood, Wash. (Bellarmine Preparatory); and sophomore goalkeeper Katie Garrett of Joshua, Texas (Joshua), made the All-SCAC Second Team. Sophomore defender Lindsay Euers of Austin, Texas (Bowie), was an All-SCAC Third Team honoree.
The sixth-ranked Tigers, who recorded a 17-game winning streak during the season, scored 62 goals, and yielded only 11. Trinity also shut out 13 opponents.
