Trinity Finishes SCAC Weekend With Shutout Win Over Austin College
San Antonio - The 12th-ranked Trinity Tigers
women scored two second-half goals to shut out the Austin College
Kangaroos 2-0 Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference game at the Trinity Soccer Field.
Trinity, the defending conference champion, improved its record to
10-1-0 and 4-0-0 SCAC. The Tigers also won their ninth straight
game, and registered their seventh shutout of the season (fourth in
a row). Austin College dropped to 9-2-0 and 4-2-0 SCAC.
Sophomore midfielder Katy
Lipscomb scored the first goal of the game, in the 76th minute.
Lipscomb accounted for her fourth goal of the campaign, and her
second game-winner. Senior midfielder Jordan Azar
provided the assist.
Junior forward Kelly Watts
produced her sixth season goal in the 85th minute to seal the
victory, and was was assisted by first-year forward Valerie Rutan.
Katie
Garrett, a sophomore goalkeeper, played the full 90 minutes and
made one save to register her fourth shutout of the season.
Trinity held Austin College to just one shot in the
game, pounding out 12 shots of its own overall -
including 10 in the second half.
The Tigers will host Millsaps College next Friday in an SCAC game
at 6 p.m., followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup with
Birmingham-Southern College.
