Women's Soccer Finishes SCAC Weekend by Edging Rhodes
Memphis, Tennessee - The 17th-ranked Tiger women's soccer team wrapped up their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road trip with a 2-1 victory over Rhodes College on Sunday afternoon.
Trinity, which won its fifth straight game, improved to 6-1-0
and 2-0-0 SCAC. The defending conference champion Tigers shut out
Hendrix 5-0 last Friday at Conway, Ark.
Tiger first-year midfielder Tara Sparks put Trinity on the board
with a goal in the 29th minute, with junior midfielder Abby Loar
providing the assist. Loar gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the 50th
minute, on an assist by senior midfielder Jordan Azar, which proved
to be the game-winner.
Rhodes got a goal with under a minute to play from Ashley Ladd,
breaking up Trinity's chance for a second shutout of the
weekend.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Garrett played a full 90 minutes, and
registered three saves.
Trinity led Rhodes 8-4 in shots, and held a 6-4 edge in shots on
goal.
The Tigers travel to Georgetown, Texas, next Saturday for a SCAC
game with Southwestern at 2 p.m. Trinity will host Mary
Hardin-Baylor at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4.
