Trinity Women's Soccer Shuts Out Hendrix Friday

Conway, Ark. – The 17th-ranked Trinity Tigers opened defense of their SCAC Championship with a 5-0 shutout Friday night over the Hendrix College Warriors.

Trinity, which registered its third shutout of the season (and second straight 5-0 victory), improved to 5-1-0 and 1-0-0 SCAC. The Tigers, who won their fourth consecutive game, travel to Memphis, Tenn., Sunday for a 12:30 p.m. SCAC contest with Rhodes College.

Tiger junior forward Abby Loar scored two goals in the game, in both halves of play. Loar, who now has three goals, put one in during the 18th minute of play, assisted by senior midfielder Jordan Azar. Seven minutes later, Azar scored, on assists from Loar and first-year midfielder Kristina Chen. Sophomore midfielder Samantha Atkins gave Trinity a 3-0 halftime lead, in the 39th minute, on assists supplied by first-year midfielders Hannah Westberg and Tara Sparks.

Junior forward Kelly Watts registered her third goal of the campaign, in the 55th minute, as first-year defender Jennifer White assisted. Loar wrapped up the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 81st minute.

Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Garrett played nearly 79 minutes, and had one save. First-year keeper Ruthie Ocean chalked up playing time in the final 11 minutes.

The potent Tiger offense fired in 41 shots, and the taut defense limited Hendrix to just one.
