Women's Soccer's Alex Leamy Earns National Academic Honors
San Antonio - Trinity University Tigers senior midfielder Alex Leamy has been elected to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division Women's Soccer Team for the second straight year.
Leamy, from Loveland, Ohio (Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy), was selected for the Academic All-America Second Team. An engineering science major with a 3.95 grade point average, Leamy made the 2008 Academic All-America Third Team.
Voting is conducted nationwide by members of CoSIDA, the College Sports Information Directors of America.
A starter for all 17 of the Tigers' games, Leamy has contributed one goal and three assists. Leamy recently was named to the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Second Team. She was a major force as the Tigers claimed their 14th SCAC Championship. Lance Key, in his sixth year at Trinity's helm, has guided the Tigers to four of those conference titles.
Trinity, undefeated with a 17-0-0 record, will host Hardin-Simmons Saturday in the NCAA Division III Sectional Tournament. The winner advances to Sunday's NCAA quarterfinals, against the winner of Concordia-Morehead and Lynchburg.
At stake is a berth in the NCAA semifinals and final, to be held Dec. 4-5 at San Antonio's Blossom Soccer Stadium. Trinity and San Antonio Sports are co-hosts of the national event.
