Women's Soccer Edges Hendrix in Regular Season Finale
San Antonio - The third-ranked Trinity University Tigers women's soccer team edged the Hendrix Warriors 1-0 Sunday in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game, and finished the regular-season undefeated.
Trinity, led by sixth-year head coach Lance Key, improved to 16-0-0 and 9-0-0 SCAC. In 2004, the Tigers and coach Key produced their first undefeated regular season, going 16-0-0 and 8-0-0 SCAC. Trinity went 16-0-2 and 9-0-0 SCAC in 2006.
Last week, the Tigers clinched their 14th SCAC Championship, and the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III postseason. Pairings will be announced Monday by the NCAA.
The only score of Sunday's game came in the 12th minute, as Tiger sophomore forward Kelly Watts put the ball in the goal, on a corner kick from junior forward Jordan Azar. Watts scored her seventh goal of the season, and her second game-winner. She also has eight assists, for 22 points. Azar made her seventh assist of the year.
Trinity, which registered its 12th shutout, led 24-4 in shots, and 11-1 on goal. The Tigers, ranked No. 1 in the West Region, blanked Hendrix 5-0 in corner kicks.
