Tiger Women's Soccer Defeats Birmingham-Southern Friday
Birmingham, Alabama - The fifth-ranked Trinity University Tigers
women’s soccer team remained undefeated with a 3-0 shutout of
the Birmingham-Southern College Panthers Friday in a Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference game.
Trinity improved to 8-0-0 and registered its third straight
shutout. Birmingham-Southern dropped to 6-5-0. The Panthers’
games do not count in SCAC standings because they are in transition
from the NCAA Division I to Division III.
Tiger senior midfielder Brianna Young scored one goal and accounted
for two assists. Young scored the only goal of the first half, in
the 31st minute, with an assist from sophomore forward Abigail
Loar, who had two assists. It marked the sixth goal of the season
for Young, and her fourth game-winner.
Sophomore midfielder Dana Carter put in a goal in the 48th minute.
Loar picked up her second assist of the game, and Young her
first.
Kelly Watts, a sophomore forward, scored in the 53 minute, as Young
provided the assist.
First-year goalkeeper Katie Garrett had one save in the game.
Trinity led Birmingham-Southern 12-4 in shots, and 8-1 in shots on
goal. The two teams tied 2-2 in corner kicks.
The Tigers, 1-0-0 in SCAC play, continue their conference schedule
Sunday at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. Game time is 2
p.m.
