#22 Tiger Women Earn SCAC Road Win Over Schreiner

Kerrville, Texas – The 22nd-ranked Tiger women's basketball team remained unbeaten in the month of February with a 79-64 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference road win at Schreiner (TX) University.

 

GAME SUMMARY

Trinity led most of the way, though Schreiner did hit the first shot to take a 3-0 lead, as well as slipping in front 7-6 midway through the first quarter.

The Tigers answered with 16 straight points to take control of the game and led 22-13 by the end of the quarter.

Despite the strong push by Trinity, the Mountaineers stayed close early in the second quarter and trailed by just five (31-26) with just over six minutes until the half.

The Tigers doubled that lead over the next three minutes, then closed the quarter by scoring seven of the final nine points to lead 47-34 at halftime.

Schreiner did outscore Trinity 15-13 in the third quarter and pull within nine points early in the fourth, but the Tigers went on an 11-2 run that pushed the lead to 18 points with under five minutes remaining to effectively end the game.

 

NOTABLES

Trinity pulled to a tie for first place in the SCAC standings with the win, moving to 20-3 overall and 12-1 in conference. Schreiner fell to 6-18, 4-9 SCAC with the loss.

The Tigers have now won 20 or more games in six consecutive seasons under Head Coach Cameron Hill, who started the streak in his first year. Prior to his arrival in 2012-13, Trinity had reached the milestone just six times in school history.

Micah Weaver became the 21st player in Trinity history to reach 900 career points, scoring 24 points in just 27 minutes tonight. Weaver hit 4-7 from three-point range, adding six rebounds and three steals to her stat line.

Rebecca Gordon finished with a season-best 11 points on the night, nailing 3-3 from beyond the arc and hitting 4-6 overall from the field.

Emily Daniel came off the bench with 11 points on 4-8 shooting, while Abby Holland also reached double figures with 10 points.

Kate Irvin chipped in with eight points in just 14 minutes, while Julia Ackerman finished with seven points, five rebounds, and four steals.  

 

UP NEXT

The Tigers and Mountaineers will play again on Saturday to close out the regular season schedule. The game is set for a 3:00 p.m. start and will be broadcast live in the San Antonio area on KCWX-TV. Seniors Rebecca Gordon, Mollie Hughes, Kate Irvin, and Micah Weaver will be honored as part of Senior Night before the game.
