San Antonio - Trinity senior Micah Weaver has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight time.
Weaver, who earned the accolade for the third occasion this season, rocked Calgaard Gymnasium Saturday night with a school record-tying 42 points performance in the 15th-ranked Tigers' conference win over Austin (TX) College. The talented guard equaled the scoring of Terri Hailey (1980) and Jennifer Warren (1995) who previously set the school mark. Hailey was in attendance at the game and graciously posed for a photo with her fellow record-holder.
The 42 points are also tied for the fourth-most in conference history. Weaver became just the seventh player in the SCAC to score 40 or more points in a matchup. Her points output is tied for third in the NCAA Division III this season.
Weaver set the tone of the evening by scoring 26 of her points in the first half of action. All told in the game, Weaver hit 15-20 from the field, 3-3 beyond the arc, and sank 9-12 at the charity stripe. A versatile player, Weaver produced her third double-double of the season by grabbing 10 rebounds, while also picking up six assists. Her 15 field goals are tied for the sixth most in Division III this campaign and are also ranked in the top-10 in the SCAC record books.
The previous night, Weaver contributed to Trinity's SCAC decision over Centenary (LA) College. Weaver finished the opening game of the weekend with 14 points, five steals, four rebounds, and four assists. Weaver is Trinity's leading scorer this season, averaging 18.9 points per game. She is also tops in field goal percentage (.524), assists (54), and steals (45).
The Tigers, led by sixth-year Head Coach Cameron Hill, are on an eight-game winning streak and stand at 13-2 overall. Trinity sits atop the conference standings with an undefeated 6-0 record.
Next weekend, the Tigers go on the road for SCAC rematches with Centenary and Austin College this Friday and Saturday.
