Trinity Basketball Teams Prepare for SCAC Tournament

San Antonio -- The Trinity Tigers men's and women's basketball teams will compete in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Tournaments Friday through next Sunday at Jackson, Miss.

Hosted by Millsaps College, the winners of the eight-team tournaments will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Division III playoffs.

The Tiger men (15-10, 11-5 SCAC) are seeded No. 1 in the West Division, and Trinity's women (13-12, 9-7 SCAC) are No. 2 in the West. Each Tiger team will play Rhodes in the quarterfinals, at different times and sites.

Trinity's men's team takes on the Lynx (7-17, 3-13 SCAC, No. 4 East)) at 1 p.m. Friday at Belhaven University. The winner advances to Saturday's semifinal at 5 p.m. at Millsaps, against the DePauw (No. 2 East) and Austin College (No. 3 West winner).

Defending champion Centre (No. 1 East) plays Hendrix (No. 4 West), Friday, and Colorado College (No. 2 West) tangles with Oglethorpe. The other semifinal on Saturday is slated for 7 p.m., and the championship game is at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Trinity's women play Rhodes (9-15, 6-10 SCAC, No. 3 East) at 8 p.m. Friday at Millsaps. The winner will advance to Saturday's semifinals at 3 p.m., against the winner of defending champ DePauw (No. 1 East) and Colorado College (No. 4 West). 

Hendrix (No. 1 West) and Oglethorpe (No. 4 East) open the women's tournament Friday, and Centre (No. 2 East) plays Southwestern (No. 3 West). The winners of those two contests have a 1 p.m. appointment Saturday, and the championship game is scheduled for noon Sunday.
