Trinity Opens SCAC Weekend With Loss at Colorado College
Colorado Springs, Colorado - The Trinity Tigers
women opened their New Year's SCAC road trip with a 76-66 loss to
the Colorado College Tigers Friday night at Reid Gymnasium.
Trinity now stands at 3-7 and 0-2 SCAC, while Colorado College
improved to 4-7 and 1-3 SCAC. The two teams will meet again Feb. 11
in Sams Gym in San Antonio.
Trinity Tigers junior forward Abby Dietert (Cibolo, Texas/Steele)
paced the team with 19 points. Dietert was accurate at the free
throw line, sinking 10-11 shots. She also pulled in eight rebounds
and blocked two shots.
First-year forward Libby Kruse (Minnetrista, N.M./Orona) led the
game with 12 rebounds, while chalking up six points and two steals.
Nicolette Halbleib (Aurora, Colo./Grandview), a first-year guard,
added nine points, two steals, and two assists.
Scoring seven points each were senior guard Danielle Hubenak (San
Antonio/Churchill), who accounted for two steals; sophomore post
Jana Tucker (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes), who also had two blocks; and
first-year guard Murphy Burns (Oklahoma City/Heritage Hall).
The opening half was nip-and-tuck, as Colorado College led 29-28.
The Colorado College Tigers pulled out to as much as a 13-point
lead (45-32), with 13:20 left in the game. Trinity rallied to
within four points (49-53), on a 3-pointer by Tucker with eight
minutes on the clock. The Texas Tigers again came within four
(54-58) on a free throw by Kruse at 5:09. But Colorado College
widened its lead to as much as 12 points after that mark.
Becky Luetjen of Colorado College led the game with 26 points, and
Kalli Kemling added 20.
Trinity shot 28.8 percent (19-66) and Colorado College hit 43.1
percent (25-58). The Trinity Tigers outrebounded their Colorado
opponents 48-38, and led 24-11 in offensive boards.
Next up for Trinity is a Sunday SCAC game at 1 p.m. in Sherman,
Texas, with Austin College.
