Trinity Women's Basketball Beaten by Southwestern in SCAC Opener
Georgetown, Texas - Trinity's women's basketball opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a 43-65 loss at Southwestern University on Friday evening.
Trinity (1-5, 0-1) trailed 14-35 at the half, but scored the second half's first 11 points to cut the lead to 10 points (35-25) after just three minutes. Southwestern responded with seven unanswered points, and the Tigers got no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Abby Dietert led Trinity with 20 points, and was Trinity's only double-digit scorer. She hit 6-12 from the field and 8-11 from the free throw line, and also pulled down eight rebounds, blocked two shots, and recorded three steals.
Jana Tucker added eight points and 10 rebounds to go with her team-best four steals. Danielle Hubenak chipped in with nine points, as well as grabbing three steals.
Trinity shot just 25.9% (15-58) from the field and hit just 1-16 three-point shots. Southwestern also shot under 40% for the game, but hit 7-23 threes and 18-20 foul shots.
Shae Seagraves led all scorers with 22 points, while Chelsea Leader finished with 11 points and eight rebounds. Anna Fareed added 15 points and four assists for the Pirates.
Trinity returns to action on Tuesday, playing at the University of Dallas at 8:00 p.m.
