Women's Basketball Beaten by Mary Hardin-Baylor on Monday

Belton, Texas - The Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders beat the Trinity Tigers women 82-62 Tuesday night in a non-conference basketball game at Mayborn Campus Center.

Trinity (1-2) had defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-1) for seven straight games.

Tiger senior guard Danielle Hubenak of San Antonio (Churchill) led Trinity with 20 points, scoring 15 in the first half. Hubenak shot 7-11 from the field, 4-6 in 3-point range, and sank both free throws. She also recorded six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Hubenak is Trinity's all-time career assists leader, and increased her total to 345 (11 this season).

Junior forward Abby Dietert of Cibolo, Texas (Steele), added 14 points (six in the first half), shooting 5-12. Dietert also pulled in six rebounds, dished out two assists, blocked two shots, and made one steal.

Sophomore guard Anne Waidelich of Floyd, Texas (Bland), scored eight points, and first-year guard Nicole Halbleib of Aurora, Colo. (Grandview), had six. Sophomore post Jana Tucker of Katy, Texas (Seven Lakes), acounted for three steals and four points.

Mary Hardin-Baylor led 52-33 at halftime. Both teams had good shooting numbers, as Trinity registered 50 percent, and Mary Hardin-Baylor hit 56 percent of the shots. A key first-half stat was turnovers, as Trinity committed 15, and mary Hardin-Baylor made nine. The Tigers went 2-2 in free throws, and The Cru sank 6-7.

But in the second half, Trinity pulled no closer than 20 points, on a 3-pointer by Waidelich with 54 seconds remaining. The Cru held a slight 30-29 scoring advantage in the half.

The Cru was paced by Lindsay Eaton, who scored 34 points, on 11-14 shooting. 

The Tigers shot 41 percent in the game (23-56), and The Cru shot 48 percent (28-58). Trinity hit 44 percent (7-16) beyond the arc, and Mary Hardin-Baylor shot 39 percent (9-23). The Tigers made 53 percent (9-17) of their free throws, as opposed to 71 percent (17-24). The two teams tied in rebounding, with 36 apiece. 

Trinity travels to Tacoma, Wash., next weekend for two games. The Tigers meet Puget Sound on Sunday at 6 p.m. Pacific (8 p.m. Central), and Pacific Lutheran Monday at 7 p.m. Pacific (9 p.m. Central).
