Centre Snaps the Trinity Women's Win Streak

San Antonio -- The Centre Colonels beat the Trinity women 67-56 Saturday night in an SCAC game at Sams Gym, snapping the Tigers' four-game winning streak.
 
Trinity, which defeated defending conference champion and 10th-ranked DePauw Friday, now stands at 7-10 and 4-5 SCAC. Centre improved to 12-6 and 6-3. The Colonels  eliminated the Tigers in last year's SCAC Championship Tournament first round.
 
Tiger senior guard Danielle Hubenak (San Antonio/Churchill) led the team with 19 points. Hubenak also recorded six rebounds and five steals.
 
First-year guard Murphy Burns (Oklahoma City/Heritage Hall) added 11 points and two steals. Junior forward Abby Dietert (Cibolo, Texas/Steele) scored nine points, and pulled in seven rebounds. Sophomore post Jana Tucker led the Tigers in rebounds, with nine, and produced four assists, three blocks, three steals, and four points.
 
The Colonels held a 34-22 lead at halftime. Centre shot nearly 36 percent in the first half, while Trinity hit only 21 percent of its shots.  Thje Colonels took a 15-point lead (47-32), with 14:05 in the second half. Trinity closed to within six (43-49), on a jumper by Burns at 6:07. But Centre owned an 18-13 scoring advantage in the last part of the game.
 
Centre's Maggie Prewitt led the game with 24 points, and Paige Baechle had a double-double (20 points, 11 rebounds).
 
 
Trinity shot 27.9 percent (17-61) for the game, and Centre hit 39.1 percent (25-64). The Colonels led 47-43 in rebounding.
 
The Tigers go on the road next weekend for two SCAC games, starting Friday at Memphis, Tenn., for a match-up with Rhodes. Trinity takes on Birmingham-Southern Saturday, Jan. 29, at Birmingham, Ala. The next home game is a SCAC contest with Colorado College on Friday, Feb. 11.
