Women's Basketball Finishes SCAC Weekend Sweep
San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers women swept
their SCAC weekend home games with a 74-62 victory over the Austin
College Kangaroos Sunday afternoon at Sams Gym.
Trinity, which beat Colorado College 85-47 Friday night, improved
to 11-12 and 8-7 SCAC. The Tigers are now tied with Southwestern
for second place in the SCAC West Division. Austin College,
which edged the Tigers 87-76 in double-overtime early last month in
Sherman, Texas, dropped to 7-14 and 5-9.
Tiger senior guard Danielle Hubenak (San Antonio/Churchill) led the
game with 23 points, with 17 coming in the second half. Hubenak
shot 9-15 from the field, sank 4-4 free throws, dished out four
assists, made two steals, and pulled in three rebounds.
Hubenak, who has 1,277 career points, moved up to No. 6 on
Trinity's all-time scoring list. She already is the Tigers leader
in career assists, and upped her total to 422.
Junior forward Abby Dietert (Cibolo, Texas/Steele) recorded a
double-double, with 18 points and a season-best 11 rebounds.
Dietert shot 5-9 from the floor, 7-9 at the charity stripe, made a
game-leading six assists and four steals, and blocked two
shots.
Dietert has scored 1,033 points in her three-year Trinity
career.
Sophomore post Jana Tucker (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) added 10
points and four rebounds.
Trinity held a 38-29 advantage at halftime, after being down by as
much as 10 points. The Tigers pulled out to an 11-point lead
(53-42) with 11:39 remaining in the game. The 'Roos closed to
within five (52-57) at 7:38, but Trinity went on a 16-6 scoring
spree and led by 15 points (73-58) with 1:18 on the clock.
Austin College was paced by Erin Riley, with 18 points, and Shayna
Clardy with 12.
Trinity shot 37.5 percent (27-72) from the field, and Austin
College hit 47.2 percent (25-53). The Tigers led 39-38 in total
rebounds, and 17-10 in offensive boards. The 'Roos committed 24
turnovers, and the Tigers made 11. Trinity capitalized on the
change of possession, scoring 35 points off Austin College
turnovers (to eight for the Kangaroos).
The Tigers will host Southwestern Friday at 6 p.m., as they wrap up
their regular-season conference schedule. The University of Dallas
comes to campus Saturday, also with a 6 p.m. starting time, for the
final regular-season home contest.
