Women's Basketball Defeats Colorado College on Friday

San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers women's basketball team rolled to an 85-47 SCAC victory over the Colorado College Tigers Friday night in Sams Gym.

Trinity, which limited Colorado College to an opponent's season-low in points, improved to to 10-12 and 7-7 SCAC. The Trinity Tigers are now tied with Southwestern for third place in the SCAC West Division. Colorado College (9-13, 6-7) dropped to fourth place in the standings.

Four Trinity players scored in double figures, led by senior guard Danielle Hubenak (San Antonio/Churchill) with a game-best 19 points. Hubenak shot 8-13 from the field, dished out three assists, and had three rebounds.

First-year guard Murphy Burns (Oklahoma City/Heritage Hall) added 14 points, on 6-9 shooting from the field, and 2-3 beyond the arc. 

Junior forward Abby Dietert (Cibolo, Texas/Steele), who recently joined Trinity's 1,000-points club, scored 12 on Friday, hitting 5-9 from the floor. First-year guard Nicolette Halbleib (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) also scored 12 points , and led the game with six assists and six steals.

Senior forwards Landes Randall (Spring, Texas/Klein) and Megan D'Errico (Issaquah, Wash./Skyline) shared Trinity's high rebounding honors with six each. 

Trinity held a 42-24 lead at halftime. The Tigers had an incredible second half, leading their Colorado counterparts by as much as 43 points. Trinity shot 42 percent in the second half of play, and Colorado College hit only 28 percent.

Colorado College was paced by Becky Luetjen's 11 points, and 10 by Alyssa Aldaz, who also had six rebounds.

Trinity shot 43.1 percent (31-72) from the field and 36.8 percent (7-19) in 3-point range. Colorado College shot 34.6 percent (18-52), and was limited to 15.4 percent (2-13) in 3-pointers.

The Texas Tigers led 44-39 in rebounding, and forced 35 Colorado College turnovers (to 16 for Trinity). Points off turnovers played a large part in the game, as Trinity scored 37 from the Colorado College changes of possession.

Trinity continues its SCAC campaign Sunday by hosting Austin College at 1 p.m.
