Trinity Women Drop SCAC Home Game to Millsaps
San Antonio - Trinity's women's basketball team lost their fourth straight game on Friday night, falling to Millsaps College 66-59 to open a weekend of SCAC play.
Trinity dropped to 3-9 and 0-4 SCAC, and Millsaps improved to 6-6 and 3-1. The two teams will tangle again Feb. 4 at Jackson, Miss.
Tiger senior guard Lauren Hickey (Boerne, Texas/Boerne) led Trinity with 14 points, one point shy of tying her career best. Hickey shot 4-8 in 3-point range, and accounted for two steals.
Junior forward Abby Dietert (Cibolo, Texas/Steele) added 11 points, a game-leading four steals, and five rebounds. First-year guard Nicolette Halbleib (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) also scored 11 points, on 4-5 shooting, and made two steals.
Sophomore post Jana Tucker (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) scored 10 points, pulled in eight rebounds, and made four assists. Trinity's all-time assists leader, senior guard Danielle Hubenak (San Antonio/Churchill) dished out six assists and scored seven points.
Kristin Salmon of Millsaps led the game with 21 points. Janice Okeke recorded a double-double, scoring 12 points, and pulling in 10 rebounds.
The Tigers were down 29-35 at halftime, and dropped to as much as 12 points behind in the second half. Trinity closed to 50-52 (8:35) on a jumper by Halbleib. But the Majors outscored the Tigers 14-9 for the remainder of the game.
Trinity shot 39.3 percent (22-56) from the field, and Millsaps hit 50.9 percent (27-53). The Majors also led 36-28 in rebounds, and held a 10-9 edge in offensive boards.
The Tigers continue their SCAC campaign by hosting Hendrix at 6 p.m. Saturday.
