Women's Basketball Win Streak Snapped by DePauw Saturday
Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw Tigers snapped the Trinity Tigers four-game winning streak with an 83-56 SCAC victory Saturday at Neal Fieldhouse on Saturday night.
Trinity, which beat Centre 70-60 Friday in a conference game at Danville, Ky., now stands at 12-5 and 6-3 SCAC. The Tigers are in third place in the SCAC Western Division. DePauw, which won its 11th straight game, improved to 15-3 and 8-1 SCAC. The DePauw Tigers also won their 46th consecutive home game.
Trinity sophomore guard Ali Marzella of Katy, Texas (Taylor) led the Tigers with 12 points. Marzella shot 4-8 from the field, and accounted for three steals and three rebounds.
Sophomore forward Abby Dietert of Cibolo, Texas (Steele), scored 11 points. Dietert had a team-best six rebounds and two assists, along with one steal. Junior guard Danielle Hubenak of San Antonio (Churchill) also produced 11 points, along with three rebounds and one assist.
DePauw, which led 42-31 at halftime, held a lead by as much as 32 points in the game (77-45, 4:44, second half). Trinity closed to within nine at one point, 37-46 (16:27, second half), on a layup by sophomore forward Kelsey Goodell of Portland, Ore. (Lincoln). DePauw answered with a 12-0 run, and led by 21 points, 58-37, with 11:12 on the clock. Goodell scored nine points, on 3-6 shooting. She also had four rebounds and a steal.
The DePauw Tigers were paced by Brooke Osborne and Emily Marshall, who scored 14 points each.
Trinity shot 35 percent from the field, and DePauw hit 45 percent. DePauw led 46-25 in rebounding.
The Trinity Tigers return home for two back-to-back SCAC games, starting Friday, Jan. 29, with Birmingham-Southern. Trinity hosts Rhodes on Saturday, Jan. 30. Both games tip off at 6 p.m. in Sams Gym. The Rhodes game was moved from Sunday, Jan. 31.
