Tiger Women Down Centre to Open SCAC Weekend
Danville, Ky. - The Trinity University Tigers women won their fourth straight game with a 70-60 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Friday over the Centre College Colonels at Alumni Gym.
Trinity improved to 12-4 and 6-2 SCAC, moving into second place in the conference's Western Division. Centre dropped to 10-6 and 5-3.
Tiger sophomore guard Ali Marzella of Katy, Texas (Taylor), led all scorers in the game with 18 points, shooting 6-11 from the field, and 2-4 in 3-point range. Marzella, who sank all four free throw attempts, also had three steals, three rebounds, and two assists.
Sophomore forward Abby Dietert of Cibolo, Texas (Steele), added 13 points, hitting 5-9 from the field. Dietert led the game with nine rebounds, and picked up four assists and two steals. Junior guard Danielle Hubenak of San Antonio (Churchill) contributed 10 points and three steals, along with three rebounds.
Trinity, which led 36-33 at halftime, never fell behind in the game. The score was tied only once (30-30, 2:13 in the first half), and Trinity led by as many as nine points in the half. The Colonels did pull within five points (60-65, 1:02 left in the game), but the Tigers shut out Centre in the final minute.
Maggie Prewitt paced Centre with 13 points, and Angela Tronzo scored 11.
The Tigers shot 46 percent from the field, and limited the Colonels to 34 percent. Centre held a 39-35 advantage in rebounding.
Trinity continues its SCAC road trip Saturday in Greencastle, Ind., taking on DePauw at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
