Hendrix Defeats Trinity Women's Basketball Friday Evening
Conway, Ark. - The Hendrix College Warriors held off the Trinity Tigers women with a 57-51 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win Friday in Grove Gymnasium.
Trinity (8-4, 2-2 SCAC) dropped to a tie for third place in the SCAC West Division, with Colorado College. Hendrix (8-2, 3-1 SCAC), which has won four of its last five games, is tied for the division lead with Austin College.
Tiger sophomore forward Abby Dietert of Cibolo, Texas (Steele), recorded a double-double, with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Dietert shot 7-15 from the field, 4-4 from the free throw line, and dished out six assists. She also had two steals and one block.
Sophomore forward Kelsey Goodell of Portland, Ore. (Lincoln), added 14 points, hitting 5-10 from the field, and sinking all four free throw attempts. Goodell had four rebounds and three blocked shots. Junior guard Danielle Hubenak of San Antonio scored 11 points, along with picking up five rebounds and two steals.
Hendrix led 27-25 at halftime . The Tigers went up by four points, 35-31, with 15:38 left in the second half. The score was tied for the fourth and final time, 39-39 at 12:18, when the Warriors outscored the Tigers 13-2 to lead 52-41 with 6:35 on the clock. Trinity closed to four points, 51-55, on a layup by first-year guard Anne Waidelich at 1:23. But Hendrix's Christina Byler sank two free throws with 18 seconds left. Missed 3-pointers by the Tigers closed the game.
Trinity shot 34 percent from the field, but hit only 8 percent
in 3-pointers. Hendrix made 31 percent of its shots from the field,
and led 44-38 in rebounding.
Anna Roane of Hendrix scored 15 points, followed by Byler's
14.
The two teams will play again Feb. 5 in Sams Gym.
The Tigers conclude their SCAC road trip Saturday in Jackson, Miss., with a 6 p.m. game against Millsaps.
