Trinity's Emerick and Hahn Place Second and Third in NCAA 3-Meter Diving

Knoxville, Tenn. -- Trinity University Tigers senior Hayley Emerick and sophomore Ruth Hahn placed second and third, respectively, Wednesday in 3-meter diving at the NCAA Division III Women's Swimming and Diving Championships.
 
Emerick (Portland, Texas/Gregory-Portland), the defending NCAA 3-meter champion, registered a score of 458.20 in the final round at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Aquatic Center. She stood in second place in the earlier preliminary round, at 472.10.
 
The College of New Jersey sophomore Danica Roskos won the event, at 502.45. Roskos led Emerick after the prelims, by 13.80 points, with a 485.90.
 
Hahn, competing in her hometown of Knoxville, finished at 445.20. The Bearden High School graduate, in her first NCAA meet, scored 440.55 in the preliminary round, and stood in fourth place.
 
 The two Tigers divers will next compete Friday on the 1-meter board.
 
Emerick, the 2007 Texas high school Class 4A 3-meter champ, is diving in the NCAA Championships for the fourth straight year.
 
At the 2010 NCAA 3-meter finals, held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Emerick posted a winning score of 514.15. She set an NCAA record of 517.10 in the preliminary rounds. Emerick placed fifth on the 1-meter board (403.25), won by Trinity teammate Lindsay Martin (Longview, Texas).
 
Coach Stan Randall was named the 2010 NCAA Women's Diving Coach of the Meet.
 
During her first year, in 2008, Emerick, was an Honorable Mention All-American on the 3-meter board, with a ninth-place finish. The following year, Emerick attained All-America status by placing third in the 3-meter, and sixth in the 1-meter event.
 
Hahn was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Diver of the Meet, at last month's event held at Shenandoah, Texas. She won the 1-meter diving with a score of 475.80, while Emerick placed second.
 
Emerick won the SCAC 3-meter board,edging her teammate by .05 points.
