Divers Earn NCAA Qualifying Marks, Tiger Swim Team Defeats Southwestern

San Antonio - Tiger senior Lindsay Martin and junior Haley Emerick earned NCAA Division III Women's Diving qualifying marks Saturday in a dual meet with the University of the Incarnate Word at Hixon Natatorium.

Martin, from Longview, Texas (Pine Tree), won the 3-meter board with a score of 277.15. Emerick, of Portland, Texas (Gregory-Portland),  took the 1-meter event (283.55), and Emerick was runner-up with a 275.80. Their scores will be submitted for consideration for the NCAA Championships, slated for March 17-20 at Minneapolis.

The two divers earned All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Championships.

Later in the day, Trinity's swimmers beat SCAC rival Southwestern in dual meets. The Tiger men won 181-57, and Trinity's women were 167-81 winners.

Sophomore men's swimmer Andrew Battles of Colleyville, Texas (Keller), won the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.05) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.14). Battles competed in last year's NCAA 1,650-yard freestyle. First-year swimmer Sean Fronczak of Sunnyvale, Calif. (St. Francis), captured the 100-yard backstroke (55.87) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.59). Audel Mehrinfar of Houston (Strake Jesuit College Prep), also in his first year, took the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.80) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.49).

The Tiger women had two individual first-year multiple winners.  Ana Price of Springfield, Mo. (Glendale), won the 50-yard freestyle (26.07) and 100-yard freestyle (56.49). Lisa Tucci of Kansas City, Kan. (Notre Dame de Sion), captured the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.53) and 500-yard freestyle (5:21.43).

Trinity will compete Nov. 20-21 at the Dallas Invitational, at Southlake, Texas.
