Southwestern Eliminates Trinity Softball from SCAC Tournament
Conway, Ark. – The Southwestern Pirates eliminated the Trinity Tigers from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Championship Tournament with a 2-0 win Saturday night at Conway High School.
Trinity (16-22), the No. 3 seed in the West Division, had earlier outlasted Centre (No. 3 East) 3-2 in a nine-inning elimination game. Southwestern (28-11), the No. 2 seed in the West, will take on defending champion DePauw (No. 1 East), late Saturday. The winner will play Millsaps (No. 1 West) Sunday for the SCAC Championship.
The Tigers were limited to two hits against the Pirates. Both hits came in the bottom of the third inning. Lindsay Weyand hit a leadoff single, followed by a bunt by Karen MacPherson, who also drew a walk. Ana Garcia also got on base, with two walks.
The game was tightly played until the sixth inning, when Southwestern scored its two runs, off two doubles.
