Trinity Softball Takes Two From Hendrix
Conway, Ark. – The Trinity Tigers softball team won a SCAC doubleheader with the Hendrix Warriors Saturday at Warrior Field.
Trinity (12-18, 5-5 SCAC) won the opener 3-1, and the second game 6-5, which went eight innings.
The Tigers stand alone in third place in the SCAC West Division. Hendrix dropped to 14-14 and 3-7 SCAC.
In the opener, all of the runs were scored in the seventh inning. The Tigers Lindsey Weyand started the drive with an RBI double to left field, scoring Ana Garcia. Rachel Garrett singled through the left side, and Weyand crossed the plate. Megan Russell, who batted 2-4, cracked an RBI single, scoring Karen MacPherson.
Pitcher Sydney Friday went the distance, fanning 13 Hendrix players along the way. Friday allowed one earned run, five hits, and one walk.
The Warriors led 5-0 in the second game, with three runs in the third inning, and two runs in the fifth. The Tigers evened the score with five runs in the top of the seventh, on six hits and one Hendrix error. Russell, Caitlin Richards, Alexa Calderon and Sarah Rabaey each registered an RBI single. In the eighth inning, Calderon singled to the left side, as MacPherson scored what would become the winning run.
MacPherson batted 5-5 with two runs, and two doubles. Rabaey hit 3-5 with an RBI. Russell and Richards each went 2-4 with an RBI and one run. Calderon hit 2-5 with two RBI and one run.
Friday (5-7) entered in the eighth inning, and earned her second victory of the day. She allowed one hit in the inning, and struck out two batters.
The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. Sunday.
