Seven Tiger Softball Players Earn All-SCAC Honors
San Antonio – Seven Trinity Tiger softball players have earned All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors following the 2010 season.
The Tigers (16-22) went 2-2 at last month’s SCAC Championship Tournament at Conway, Ark. Trinity claimed victories over Rhodes and Centre, while losing to Millsaps and eventual champion Southwestern.
Sophomore outfielder Karen MacPherson of Allen, Texas (Allen), was selected for the All-SCAC Second Team. It marked the second straight year MacPherson earned all-conference honors. In the four tournament games, MacPherson, who was also named to the All-Tournament team, batted .429 (6-14), scored four runs, and stole three bases. During the season, MacPherson led the Tigers in hitting at .339 (42-124), had 10 RBI, and scored 38 runs. MacPherson, Trinity’s all-time stolen base leader, completed the campaign with 29 steals, out of 31 attempts.
Six Tigers made the All-SCAC Honorable Mention Team, including senior designated hitter Caitlin Richards of San Antonio (Clark), also an All-Tournament honoree.
Joining Richards was sophomore outfielder Rachel Garrett of Round Rock, Texas (Round Rock), who earned conference honors for the second consecutive year.
Three first-year players also garnered honors from the SCAC: catcher Ana Garcia of Austin, Texas (Bowie); pitcher/utility player Sarah Rabaey of Round Rock (Round Rock); pitcher Sydney Friday of Sugar Land, Texas (The Kinkaid School); and first baseman Megan Russell of Fort Worth, Texas (Boswell).
